Routine updates of FDCC checklists?

Postby owensjp » Tue Jun 10, 2008 8:06 am

What is the preferred method for keeping the FDCC checklists up to date in Secutor Magnus? I have noticed that installing updated versions of Secutor Magnus provides updated checklists. Is there a simple (automated) way of keeping a stable installation current?

By the way, I am aware of the cl.exe program for updating content on the server. Is this the preferred method? If so, is there a mailing list one can watch for notices of FDCC updates?

The best way to import new content is using the content management tool:

Start --> Secutor --> Magnus Server --> Content Manager

Using this tool you can not only manage which content items and versions are available and visible, but you can import new content as well. This includes custom content that you create or brand new benchmarks you've obtained such as from the SCAP site at NIST.

The Magnus server installer includes content that we have personally vetted and that matches the content that is pre-loaded into the current release of the database image, but by no means is that the limit to what you can use in the system -- that's what standards are all about after all.

We do recommend, however, that when using content other than the TG-vetted content you tag it as "Custom" in the importer and *not* "OEM" -- this will save you headaches later.

We will also be putting the TG-vetted content out in a separate installer soon. Keep in mind that any time you update content files on an existing system you will need to import it with the Content Manager tool before the Magnus system will use it.

Excellent! Are you planning to notify customers via email whenever new vetted content is made available for download? That would be a *very* nice feature! ;-)
